and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. From the diary which I

have kept since the 17th. March, 1907, I have calculated that

the number of hours per week which I have worked on an average

from the 17th. March up to date is over 62. Not counting

Sundays and public holidays this makes a daily average of nearly

11 hours. Up to the autumn vacation it was about 11 hours per

day.

I have to work every Sunday and public

holiday, and on most evenings after dinner. I work nearly every

afternoon from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Official Receivership is enough to take

up the whole time of one Officer with a competent staff. I think

that the Official Receiver ought to have a European Assistant.

There are about 60 current bankruptcies. A 39 hours week would

enable the Official Receiver to give of an hour a week to

each bankruptcy.

The work of the Official Receiver may,

does, at the present time include, bringing actions, selling

house property, and supervising the carrying of the businesses

of a builder and a cormission agent, etc.

Personally, I am doing my own work as

Deputy Registrar in addition to acting as Official Receiver.

I have referred above to the bankruptcy

work as it has been for the last three years. Before that there

was less of it.
